CCRTA Travel Training Program

Please note that this program had to be postponed from September 16th to September 30th.

Teaching a person to self-travel can have a number of benefits.  Independent travel can support the individual in broadening their involvement within the community and allow them to make use of more recreational, educational, and employment opportunities.  Self-travel can also aid in improving self-esteem, which can encourage an individual to learn new skills and take advantage or more opportunities to function independently and become more self-reliant.

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) Travel Training Program is designed to assist individuals, groups, students, the disabled community, and seniors in traveling independently on Fixed Routes, DART and SmartDART services through Cape Cod.

Join us at the Falmouth Public Library on Monday, September 30th at 12pm in the Hermann Room as we have a certified Travel Trainer come and teach:

  • Bus Route Training
  • Trip Planning – Reading and understanding route maps and schedules
  • Boston Hospital Bus
  • CCRTA Website
  • Proper Wheelchair Securement
  • Bus Fare Structure
  • Bicycle Rack Positioning

Friday Films Resumes!

With another summer Movies Under the Stars coming to a close, the library’s Friday Films resume! Starting Friday August 23rd, the library will be showing newly released movies, every other Friday, in our Hermann Meeting Room at 3pm.

Join us at the Falmouth Public Library on Tuesday, August 27th at 6:30pm in the Hermann meeting room for an author talk and book signing with Linda Humphrey.  She will be discussing her new book Secret Cape Cod and the Islands: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure with her son Jack Humphrey! Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Join us at the Falmouth Public Library for an Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia education program presented by Jennifer Hoadley from the Alzheimer’s Association on Wednesday, July 17th from 4pm to 5pm in the Hermann meeting room.

Come learn the impact of Alzheimer’s, basic information on the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages, riskfactors, research and FDA-approved treatments and Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Jennifer Hoadley is the regional manager of Southeastern MA for the Alzheimer’s Association with 10+ years of experience in memory care and a personal connection to the disease.

Upper Cape Camera Club

Falmouth Public Library Exhibit and Sale

The Upper Cape Camera Club’s (UCCC) annual Falmouth Public Library Exhibit and Sale will be held from Tuesday, July 2nd through Wednesday, July 31st during regular library hours in the Adult Collections Room.  The 44 photographs will feature Cape Cod sunrises and sunsets, wildflowers, and other members’ favorites from 27 photographers.

Exhibit Reception

An exhibit reception will be held on Wednesday, July 17th from 4pm-6pm in the Adult Collections Room. Refreshments will be provided with the opportunity to talk with the photographers.

From beginners to professionals, the UCCC welcomes all interested in photography.  The Club’s mission is to provide photographers at all levels an opportunity to develop skills and share their work in a supportive environment. Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month.  Stop by our display for library books and Alzheimer’s Association informational pamphlets on these topics.  While you are looking, feel free to take Alzheimer’s Association magnets, bracelets, pencils, stickers, erasers, stress balls and more from the display (while supplies last).

Two Authors, Two New Books, and their Writing Group

Join us at the Falmouth Public Library on Thursday, June 6th at 1pm in the Hermann Room as we present Two Authors, Two New Books, and their Writing Group!

Did you ever wonder about starting or joining a writing group? Barbara E. Struna and Iris G. Leigh have been writing together since 2008. Come hear how they progressed from first pages to published books, and how as a writing group they support each other through the writing and publishing process.  Barbara, the author of six books, including The Old Cape House and her newest, The Old Cape Map, will discuss her books. Iris will talk about her debut novel, Liza’s Secrets.  Copies of their books will be available for purchase at the event.

Barbara Eppich Struna, international best-selling author and storyteller at heart, bases her tales on the history, myth, and legends of Cape Cod and her own personal experiences. Barbara is President of Cape Cod Writers Center; a member of International Thriller Writers and a member of Sisters In Crime, National and New England.

With the support of a long-standing writing group, Cape Cod resident Iris G. Leigh wrote, and edited her stories, eventually leading to the publication of her debut novel, Liza’s Secrets by Black Rose Writing.  She is a member of the Cape Cod Writer’s Center and actively takes part in book groups, supporting other writers.
