The Falmouth Public Library is very pleased to offer again this year, the very popular workshop, “Kids Take the Stage”! For the past several years kids aged 11 on up have enjoyed this 10 hour program in which they write their own screen play, then rehearse, rehearse, rehearse and then perform it for their family and friends on the final day. No experience is necessary to join the workshop, just a desire to be creative, work as a team and to see what theater is all about!
This year we have the good fortune to have the very talented and esteemed mother-daughter team of Davien and Morgan Gould to direct our program. Davien Gould has been active in local community theater both on and off the stage for the last 38 years. She has directed family productions for the Falmouth Theatre Guild, including 1998’s Oliver and 2010’s Peter Pan. In addition to teaching early childhood professional development and parent workshops throughout New England, Davien has spent much of her career developing acting workshops for children and adults, as well as incorporating theater, music, and movement into her Integrated Arts Program at the K.C.Coombs School in Mashpee, where she was on staff for 22 years. Morgan Gould, a Falmouth native now based in New York City, is currently the Associate Artistic Director of Young Jean Lee’s Theater Company. For the past 3 years, Morgan has also been a teaching artist at Fordham School of the Arts in the East Bronx through the New York based nonprofit LEAP (Learning through an Expanded Arts Program), which sends professional artists into New York City public schools to teach playwriting and promote literacy through drama. Morgan is excited to be back at the library, where, at the age of 11, she won a much coveted trophy shaped like a sailboat for first place in a storytelling competition for her rousing rendition of Dr. Seuss’ The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.
The workshop will take place from Tuesday, August 14 through Friday, August 17th from 1:30 – 4:00 daily in the Falmouth Public Library at 300 Main Street. Sign up is required. Please contact the reference department at 508-457-2555 ext. 6, email “email@example.com or text us at 66746 and start your question with askfpl. Of course, you can always stop by the desk too! This workshop is possible due to generous support from the Trustees of the Falmouth Public Library.
