If you have ever been in our children’ room, you have probably noticed a much loved house called Phyllis’ House. The house is named after Phyllis Eastwood who was our children’s librarian for many years. The house was an homage to a cardboard house that Phyllis had created out of a huge cardboard box. That original house was so loved that when we got the new house built in Phyllis’ memory, the old house moved to our North Falmouth branch where it was discovered by a whole new group of children. Recently Phyllis’ daughter, Sarah DiGregorio, wrote a wonderful article about her mother and her love of ice cream. This reminded me that Phyllis was the person who began the library’s annual ice cream party celebration at the end of the summer reading program. After reading Sarah’s article I can see why it was an obvious choice for Phyllis to celebrate with ice cream! Read Sarah’s article and you will learn more about her mother, and our friend, who we still miss. You just might need a Kleenex handy.
