We are lucky here on the Cape to be surrounded by abundant fishing spots, in salt water and fresh. So, if you are looking for advice on where to go, what to use, how to land the best catch or anything related to fishing at all, then see the fishing magazines we have in the periodical room:
On the Water
“Written by fishermen for fishermen, On the Water is a large-format, full-color monthly magazine that covers fishing and boating in the Northeast like nothing else. It contains features and columns written by local anglers who have intimate and detailed knowledge of the area. If you have a passion for fishing fresh and saltwater in the Northeast, On the Water is your magazine,” their website states. The September issue advertises the annual Striper Cup “The Biggest Fishing Party in the Northeast,” which will take place in Falmouth on Saturday, October 1. Published in Falmouth!
With the tagline “Informed fishermen. Profitable fisheries. Sustainable fish,” National Fisherman describes itself as “a voice that credibly articulates issues from the perspective of commercial fishermen.” “Fisheries regulation is Byzantine by any standard, and extremely regional in focus. National Fisherman recognizes this and believes its strength is in stories that offer readers the big picture, as opposed to the nitty-gritty of local management.”
Salt Water Sportsman
“Salt Water Sportsman provides international coverage for all methods of saltwater fishing, including deep sea, surf casting, and fly fishing. The full-color publication is written by professionals who are prominent in the sport. Excellent articles and photos present information on skills, tactics, boating, electronic technological advancements, destinations, news, recipes, and tackle, all focusing on fishing in saltwater. Lengthy feature articles explore specialized topics on specific fish, equipment, management, and conservation matters.”
Field & Stream
“Field & Stream ‘celebrates the outdoor experience with great stories, compelling photography, and sound advice, and it honors the traditions hunters and fisherman have passed down for generations.’ This magazine has been around for more than 100 years, so it must be doing something right. Informative and accessible feature articles deal with anything having to do with the outdoors, from fishing to hunting to boating to equipment reviews to conservation,” states one magazine reviewer.
