Eating With the Seasons

Celebrating the bounty of the Falmouth Farmers’ Market & Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, the What’s Falmouth Reading? Committee presents Eating with the Seasons, a 3-part series of hands-on demonstrations & food tastings, starting April 13 at Highfield Hall in Falmouth.

Each session runs 9:30-11 AM & is FREE of charge. All sessions will be held in the kitchen at Highfield Hall in Falmouth.  Participation is limited to 12 per session, so advance sign-up is required.  To register, call 508-457-2555, x6 or Email:

The first session, “Preserving the Seasons” on Saturday, April 13, features Carrie Richter of Peachtree Circle Farm in Sippewissett. She will discuss effortless ways to extract every bit of pleasure from local food from spring through fall, by freezing, drying & putting by each season’s bounty. She will accompany her talk with demos, tips & tastings to convince you to plan ahead now!

“Foraging Local Treasures” on April 20 and will feature shellfisherman Matt Weeks. He will discuss where to harvest shellfish on Cape Cod, demonstrate how to buy and use the right equipment & show how to shuck and eat oysters.  (Session filled, but waiting list started.)

The final session, “Sourcing Local Cheese,” is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, led by Patricia Gadsby & Susan Ryan Ackell of the Falmouth Farmers Market. They will show participants how to make fresh cheese at home. They will offer both samples & recipes.
