Dying for a little mystery?

Do you love to read mysteries and suspense filled books by authors like Harlan Coben, Alexander McCall Smith and Faye Kellerman?  But do you fear you’ll have to give up your riveting novels during this busy season so you can do all that holiday shopping, cleaning, cooking, decorating, crafting, traveling and celebrating?  Well, we have just the thing for you!  For thrilling, but short escapist reading, check out The Strand Magazine.

This “venerable” magazine according to a review by Magazines for Libraries, “is back and better than ever.  Each issue of this classy, quarterly print publication delivers gripping tales of mystery and suspense in a variety of settings by some of today’s leading mystery writers.” In the issues we have available at the library you can read “Never Kill a Dick” by Cornell Woolrich, “Fatal Twist” by Alan Jacobson, and “The Voiceless” by Faye Kellerman, to list only a few.  In addition, The Strand prints interviews with two authors in each issue, so you can learn about the likes of John Sandford, Laura Lippman and Jeff Lindsay.  There are also nonfiction articles and meaty reviews of recent publications.

You can find The Strand Magazine in the periodicals area filed alphabetically between Sports Illustrated and Sun.  The current issue (in the plastic cover) is for library use only, but lift the shelf for back issues that you can take home.  Enjoy a little mysterious interlude with The Strand.  Who knows, you just may find a new favorite author and that would be a nice holiday treat.
