On Wednesday evening November 16, we hosted Avoid Holiday Weight Gain in our Healthy Lifestyles series, sponsored by the Falmouth Hospital Cancer Committee and the Cancer Resource Center located here at the Falmouth Public Library. Our speaker was Registered Dietitian Katie Smith Hopewood, a nutritionist with the Rhode Island Public Health Department and University of Rhode Island. She also serves as chef for Rhode Island’s Kids First program, visiting schools and community centers to spread the word about fun and easy ways for families to eat foods that are both tasty and healthful.
Katie came to Falmouth to help folks get ready for a holiday season with fun and delicious food, with NO regrets! Her talk included live preparation of two holiday dips. To make Katie’s Key Lime Pie Dip: 2 c Low-fat Greek Yogurt, 2 Tbs Lime juice, 1 tsp Lime zest, 3 Tbs Honey, 1 Tbs ginger powder. Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Cover & refrigerate. There was so much interest in this event that we anticipated a full house, but the heavy, chilly rains kept many away. Luckily, FCTV was on the scene! Videographers Kevin Lynch & Valerie May Douglas recorded the event. Check the FCTV website in the next couple of weeks for the broadcast.
