We’re Here For You!

Due to the COVID-19 virus, the Falmouth Public Library, the East Falmouth Branch and North Falmouth Branch are closed to the public, but the librarians are still here for you!

During this first phase of a gradual reopening plan, there will be no public access to the inside of the library buildings.  Outside pickup will be available at the main library, at the Katharine Lee Bates entrance doors.  Items need to be requested in advance, either through the library’s online CLAMS catalog or with staff help by phone (508) 457-2555.  Requests may also be made via email to info@falmouthpubliclibrary.org or via our text-a-librarian service. Text 66746 and start your question with “askfpl”.
 
As with all requests, you will be notified when your item is ready for pickup either by phone or email. The soonest you will be able to get your item will be the day after you make your request.
 
We anticipate adding outside pickup to our North and East branches, but not at this time.

Hours of Operation for Outside Pickup:
Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Tue & Wed: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Items available for Outside Pickup include books, audiobooks, magazines (including the current issue), DVDs, and music CDs from the Childrens, Young Adult and Adult collections from the Main Library building only.  Specialized library items such as newspapers, Youth Services story kits, and museum passes are not available for outside pickup at this time.
 
The following procedures are required to minimize contact during the transaction:
  • Materials will be checked out and placed on the table in front of the doorway.
  • Returned items must be placed in the library’s outside book drop and not on the pickup table.
  • Please wear a mask and practice social distancing while here.
The library is unable to accept fines/fee payments during outside transactions.
 
Due to COVID-19 concerns, material donations of any kind cannot be accepted at this time.
 
Due dates have been extended until June 30 for all items.
 
Following return, items will remain on a patron’s account during a three-day quarantine period.

Library Services FAQs

  • How can I put a PIN on my library card?
    Go to the library homepage and click on “My Account“. 
  • I don’t remember my password.  Can you help me?
    You can reset your password online.  Please do not ask for password assistance during outside transactions.  
  • What should I do with library materials I have at home?
    Please return library materials to the book drops at any Falmouth Public Library location.  They are available 24/7.  Due dates have been extended to June 30 and fines are waived.
  • Why are materials I have returned still showing on my account?
    Following return, items will remain on a patron’s account for a 72 hour quarantine period.  See the next question.
  • Are library material safe to use?
    Falmouth Public Library is following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations and we are taking precautions to prevent cross-contamination.  Library materials are quarantined for 72 hours before being re-shelved, and we are following physical distancing guidelines in the building.  Staff wear masks throughout the day.
  • What about my holds from other libraries? 
    Delivery of items between libraries is suspended.  You will be notified in the usual way after the service resumes and your hold is available for pick up.
  • What about Programs/Events at the library? 
    Check the online event calendar which will be updated continually and sign up for our eNewsletter here.  Sorry, we are not able to accept Room Reservations at this time.
