Welcome C.J. Verburg!
The Falmouth Public Library is pleased to welcome CJ Verburg to the Main Library (300 Main Street, Falmouth) on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.
Join us for a conversation with author CJ Verburg and Jill Erickson, Head of Reference and Information Services at the Falmouth Public Library. At work on a new novella, CJ Verburg is an award-winning playwright and theatre director and the author of bestsellers in international literature and science, including (Ourselves Among Others, Edward Gorey on Stage), a memoir, and two mystery series.
A storyteller ever since she could talk, CJ Verburg spent the 1990’s collaborating on theatre projects with her Yarmouth Port neighbor, the late artist and writer Edward Gorey. Their friendship inspired her multimedia memoir Edward Gorey On Stage and her award-winning play Spin, or Twilight of the Bohemians. Her Edgar Rowdey Cape Cod mystery series, starting with the novels Croaked and Zapped, spun off from one of their “idées du jour” over lunch. A former editor and freelance writer for major publishers on both coasts, Verburg moved to San Francisco after Gorey’s death. She runs the Indie Publishers’ Working Group at the Mechanics’ Institute Library and is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Readers International. She has recently finished writing Gaudí Knight, a sequel to Silent Night Violent Night and Another Number for the Road in her international Cory Goodwin mystery series, which stars the Boston journalist daughter of New York private eye Archie Goodwin. She’s now working on an Edgar Rowdey Cape Cod mystery novella, The Toastrack Enigma.
No registration is required. Book purchases and signings courtesy of Eight Cousins Bookstore will follow the event. The following books will be available for sale:

Edward Gorey On Stage: Playwright, Director, Designer, Performer: a Multimedia Memoir
CJ Verburg: A friend and neighbor of the late artist Edward Gorey, Verburg produced and assistant-directed most of his twenty-odd original plays and “entertainments” on Cape Cod. Edward Gorey On Stage is her multimedia memoir about their theatrical escapades, including rare drawings, photos, film clips, and music. Her Edgar Rowdey Cape Cod Mystery series (starting withCroaked and Zapped) originated as one of their frequent idées du jour over lunch. When Gorey died before they could pursue it, she gave one of his unused acronymic pseudonyms to the books’ reluctant sleuth.
Verburg’s Cory Goodwin mysteries had two inspirations: her admiration for the late writer Rex Stout, and her publishing career in San Francisco and Boston. The series’ narrator is the journalist daughter of Stout’s detective Archie Goodwin. Silent Night Violent Night plunges Cory into the noir side of publishing at a college friend’s posh holiday party. In Another Number for the Road, she heads for France to cover an upscale goodwill exchange and becomes entangled with a rock star she interviewed at a protest march twenty years ago.
