Poetry on the Library Lawn

The Falmouth Public Library invites you to join us in celebrating the 160th birthday of Falmouth native, Katharine Lee Bates, on the library lawn at 300 Main Street Falmouth on August 12 from 10 AM to Noon.   Bates, best known for writing America the Beautiful, was born in Falmouth on August 12, 1859.  In addition to penning the popular patriotic song, Bates was an author, literary scholar, professor at Wellesley College and a social activist.

In honor of her birthday, there will be an America the Beautiful poetry trail, a community poem board where you can help compose poems with magnetic words or markers on a white board, and the book bike will there with library staff giving away free poetry books.   These activities are free and suitable for readers of all ages.  Drop by the main library and enjoy a bit of poetry on the lawn.
