4 J.D. Salinger novels are now available in CLAMS Overdrive and Libby!
If you use Overdrive or Libby to get ebooks, there is some good news! CLAMS has won free electronic editions of the complete published works of J.D. Salinger: The Catcher in the Rye, Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: an introduction. And if you don’t currently use them, feel free to stop by the Reference Desk for some information or a quick lesson!
“These four classic works became available as ebooks for the first time ever on August 13, 2019, as part of a year-long celebration of the centennial of J. D. Salinger and his immeasurable contributions to literature.
Matt Salinger, the author’s son, explains why the ebooks are being released now: “There were few things my father loved more than the full tactile experience of reading a printed book, but he may have loved his readers more—and not just the ‘ideal private reader’ he wrote about, but all his readers. As it became clear to us that increasing numbers of readers today read only ebooks, and after I was taken severely (if also humorously) to task by a disabled reader in Ypsilanti, Michigan, who can’t read except on an electronic device, we decided it was time.”
Further celebration of the Salinger centennial includes a forthcoming new, large-print edition of The Catcher in the Rye and—opening in October 2019—a special exhibition at the New York Public Library of some of J. D. Salinger’s manuscripts, letters, photographs, books, and artifacts on loan from the J. D. Salinger Literary Trust.” (Little Brown)
