September 16 & 17 The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry. "A young woman descended from a long line of mind readers and fortune tellers has returned to her hometown of Salem, Massachusetts, for rest and relaxation. Any tranquility in her life is short-lived, however, when her aunt drowns under mysterious circumstances." We will be reading the William Morrow edition of this novel.

October 21 & 22 While I Was Gone by Sue Miller. “'Thirty years after she discovers her best friend murdered, Jo Becker finds her now happy life unraveling. A decade after her phenomenal bestseller, The Good Mother, Miller delivers an exquisitely suspenseful novel about how casually a marriage can be destroyed and how a good wife can place all she holds dear at risk."

November 18 & 19 Brick Lane by Monica Ali. “Ali has written a stunningly accomplished debut about one outsider's quest to find her voice. What could not be changed must be borne. And since nothing could be changed, everything had to be borne."

December 16 & 17 Back Roads by Tawni O'Dell. “In a small Pennsylvania town depressed by coal mine closings, a young man of nineteen finds himself thrust into the role of parent.”

January 20 & 21 Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. "Robinson has written 'an intimate tale of three generations from the Civil War to the twentieth century: a story about fathers and sons and the spiritual battles that still rage at America's heart.”

February 17 & 18 The Swallows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra. In a land dominated by the Taliban, Zunaira's quick trip to the market with her husband ends in a death sentence. ... A dazzling novel written with compassion and exquisite detail by one of the most lucid writers about the mentality of Islamic fundamentalists and the complexities of the Muslim world."
