The Falmouth Public Library is delighted to present an exciting workshop, Henna by Heather, for 12 to 18 year olds on Thursday, June 28 from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Heather is a an acclaimed and fully certified henna artist. She has presented workshops across New England and the east coast of the United States. Her elaborate henna work has been displayed at well-respected galleries such as The Rhode Island School of Design and the Slough Museum in the United Kingdom.
“Practiced for five thousand years throughout India, Africa, and the Middle East, the act of painting the body with preparations made from the crushed leaves of the henna plant, whether it be in preparation for a special occasion or in celebration of a particular event, has always been done with the assumption or fervent wish that the act would engender good fortune, happy results and good feelings.” (Carine Fabius, Mehndi (1998)
During the 3-hour workshop, participants will learn about the history and significance of henna, and have a design expertly applied by Heather! The henna design can be one’s own creation, traditional, or a contemporary design by Heather. Henna, also known as mehndi, is temporary and will fade away in a week to ten days. A fun Bollywood movie will be running while participants await their henna session. This workshop is FREE, thanks to generous support from the Trustees of the Falmouth Public Library.
